West London Apartment

West London Victorian Terrace: 2-bedroom Apartment

Design and Build | Furniture Planning | Kitchen Design | Bathroom Design | Soft Furnishings | Interior Decoration | Project Coordination

A Victorian terraced apartment transformed from a run-down space into a luxurious, spacious home.

This was a true interior transformation, representative of Violet & George’s creative approach to reimagining spaces and our careful attention to detail. When we started this project the interior was tatty and outdated, with a bathroom covered in mildew and a kitchen accessed down steep steps through an archway that had fallen into disrepair.  To create more space, the living area was relocated from the front of the property to the back, looking out onto the large south-facing garden.  Two equal sized bedrooms were created, while an extension accommodated a new modern kitchen – a space delightfully juxtaposed with the beautiful Victorian features of the original property. A break in the terrace meant we could isolate the entrance from the communal hallway, giving the apartment a sense of exclusivity. A fusion of vintage and modern interior touches give the property a sense of innovative and eclectic indulgence. From eye-catching wallpaper and art deco lighting to creatively revamped furniture, sumptuous hand-finished curtains and a u-shaped sofa custom built to fit the space we delivered an engaging, creative space in which to live, entertain live and enjoy.

The Lancasters

The Lancasters: 4-bedroom apartment

Interior Decoration | Furniture planning | Lighting design | Soft furnishings | Design and management of bespoke joinery items | Coordination of painters and decorators

Transforming a Grade II listed apartment in The Lancasters into a distinctive, family-friendly space.

When we first encountered this apartment it was sterile and impersonal, with white walls, neutral carpeting and no distinguishing features.  The client wanted to put their unique stamp on the property and transform it into a playful family-friendly home that conveyed a sense of vibrant energy. The top floor corridor separating the living space from the children’s bedrooms was transformed from an innocuous walkway into a playful design feature, adorned with a bright rainbow coloured walls hand painted with birds of paradise and butterflies.  A fun feature for the children, we also created access to their bedrooms through a secret door into a Narnia inspired wardrobe lined with woodland wallpaper. The client’s strong eye for contemporary art meant that paintings for the property had already been selected and so we used this as a basis for understanding his distinctive taste and as a design guide for the rest of the property.  We offset the bold colours by using bright palettes and confident graffiti-style stencilled features.  The challenge with the living space and master bedroom was to make the double-height space homely, which we achieved with a striking colour palette and oversized, bespoke furniture.

West London Townhouse

West London Townhouse: 5-bedroom house for private client

Interior Decoration | Soft furnishings | Cross-supplier coordination

Collaborating with an artist to create a relaxed family home in West London.

A dynamic collaboration, we worked with the time-pressed client to create a unique, artistic home that reflected their personality and style.  Sharing and debating initial ideas, we selected paint colours, materials and light fittings to artistically punctuate the space. We also managed the fitting of a bespoke kitchen by Rupert Bevan based on a variety of materials including concrete, zinc and oak, and built a custom wardrobe with doors made from reclaimed mahogany panelling by Retrouvius.  Bespoke bathrooms by Water Monopoly were fitted throughout the house. Handmade and luxurious soft furnishings including curtains, blinds and sofas were crafted in-house by our workshop team using vintage and carefully sourced fabrics. While a large part of this project was overseeing the building work, we also worked closely with the architect to help guide the client’s decision making. Our end-to-end supervision ensured that the project was completed seamlessly, stylishly and to the highest of standards.

Adding the finishing touches needed to transform this London townhouse into a creative and cosy home.

Nicky had previously worked on this house, helping to impeccably restore and renovate it.  She returned to the property to add the finishing touches needed to make it more comfortable and personal. Working in partnership with the client, the bedroom was beautifully wallpapered, some unique one-off pieces of furniture were sourced and a shaggy goat ottoman was installed to give the room a decadent flourish. Bespoke cushions were made, luxurious rugs were sourced and creative lighting was installed to perfectly finish the project and give it a homely stamp of personal appeal.

Notting Hill Townhouse

Notting Hill Townhouse: 5-bedroom house

Interior Decoration | Furniture planning | Lighting design | Soft furnishings | Design and coordination of bespoke joinery items | Coordination of painters and decorators

An intelligent transformation of a 5-bedroom house, including an array of unique, custom-built furniture.

This 5-bedroom house in Notting Hill had recently been restored and renovated to high specifications by Nicky.  Now working in her Violet & George capacity, she returned to source the soft furnishings and decorative touches required to make the space more comfortable and luxurious. Exciting wallpapers were selected and custom-made furniture was both created and restored in our workshop, including a leather topped table designed to fit the drawing room, a console table for the entrance hall designed by the Violet & George blacksmith, and a set of antique leather chairs which were lovingly restored. Fabrics and rugs were carefully selected to offset the space, and all windows were beautifully dressed. The master bedroom wardrobe was purchased at Christies and lined with printed fabric in the Violet & George workshop. In the bedroom, fabric was hung on the walls to deaden sound internally, while in the garden room a sofa was custom-made to fit the space and lavish mirrors were created from antique windows.

Interior Decoration | Design and coordination of bespoke soft furnishings items | Sourcing fabrics and materials

A delightful fusion of oriental elegance, delicate florals, bold geometrics and an emotive palette.

Our brief for this Notting Hill townhouse was a blend of function and whimsy that also sought to achieve both the striking and the soothing. What transpired is a delectably quirky, eclectic design journey that took us both back in time and bang up to date.

We advised on, made and installed window treatments and soft furnishings including mattresses, beanbags and headboards. We re-upholstered furniture, designed and created new sofas, supplied and fitted rugs and carpets and printed bespoke wallpapers. And as with all our clients, we advised and assisted them on every key decision point, sourced hard-to-find fabric and provided all the necessary specialist trades.

Earls Court Apartment

Earls Court Apartment

Interior Decoration | Furniture planning | Soft furnishings | Design and coordination of bespoke joinery items | Coordination of painters, decorators, electricians and builders

Rejuvenating and refocusing an apartment that had lost its way.

We embraced a tired, soulless flat, reenergising it and giving it back the soul that had long-since left after years of lacking love. By adding creative lighting, upgrading the joinery and sourcing new furniture for the living room, it started to feel itself again. We gave it a new colour scheme to tie the rooms together in a coherent interior narrative and added much needed storage in the tiny kitchen and compact bathroom. We replaced doors, tiles and handles to modernise its look and installed a new bathroom, including stone tiling. New wallpaper, a bespoke headboard, carefully chosen pieces of furniture, hand-made soft furnishings and interesting accessories completed the revitalisation.
